I watched this video last night and was disturbed and deeply saddened by it. When I found the student on the video was Muhammad Ashraf Haziq Rossli, from Malaysia and he was on his way to buy food to break his fast during Ramadaan, my blood started to boil. It was like watching your own brother or son who left home for a better life in a foreign place in this situation.Although you feel for everyone that are in these situations, you feel more pain if a brother was in a similar situation. All I could think of what would his mother be feeling as she watched this in Malaysia. I felt I had to say something to him and all the oppressed in the world, especially our muslim brothers and sisters affected by crime in South Africa, Oppression in Palestine, Ridicule in the West. Reflect on the Prophet(SAW) reaction when he was in Taif.. you will feel some solace inshaAllah..
According to the Telegraph Muhammad Asyraf Haziq Rossli, a “gifted” accountancy student from Malaysia, had recently enrolled on a course in the capital after winning a scholarship to study in the country. However, the welcome he received during his first days in the Britain was to be attacked by a rioting mob .
David Cameron, the Prime Minister, has described the incident as “disgusting” and an indication of the malaise in society.
Mr Rossli was yesterday unable to describe his ordeal as he lay in hospital, undergoing surgery for a broken jaw and smashed teeth.
However, Malaysian officials who visited his bedside described the brutal assault in which he was first knocked off his bicycle and repeatedly punched and kicked in the face, then mugged by a group supposedly helping him. “He cannot really speak because of the severity of the injuries to his jaw,” said Wan Azmi, a consular officer from the High Commission of Malaysia in London. “He is in a lot of pain and it is most likely that he will need a metal plate in his jaw. He can’t eat at the moment so he’s being fed through a drip.”
The talented mathematician was cycling through Barking, east London, at 7.30pm on Monday when he crossed paths with a 50-strong mob of rioters, apparently on their way to loot a retail park. He had gone out to buy food for Iftar – the meal eaten by Muslims when breaking their Ramadan fasting – when he was confronted by some of the gang. Mr Azmi added: “The first group attacked him and stole his bicycle. It appears that he was lying on the ground and they repeatedly punched or kicked his head. “Then the second group, on the pretext of helping him, came along and robbed him.” He had his wallet, mobile phone and PSP player stolen in the incident.
Footage posted on YouTube captures the second half of Mr Rossli’s ordeal, as he lay collapsed on a railway bridge in a pool of blood. Abdul Hamid, 23, who filmed the attack, said: “It was sickening to see him lying there so helpless, then for these people to come along and mug him in that state. “I wanted to go down and help but I was terrified that I would get beaten up as well.”
Mr Rossli, a first year student, was last night recovering at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London. He moved to Britain last month having won a scholarship through the Malaysian Government agency Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) to study at Kaplan Financial college in London for his Association of Chartered Certified Accountants qualification.
He is due to remain in the country studying until 2013, however, his mother was yesterday trying to raise funds to bring him home amid fears of further violence. Speaking from the family home in Klang Valley, Malaysia, Mr Rossli’s mother Maznah Abu Mansor said: “He had gone to London only last month to study accounts. We sent him there because he dreamed of studying in the UK. “We are not very well off, but we saved some money and borrowed some from friends to send him abroad. “I get to hear that only a month later he was thrashed on the streets and robbed of his belongings. It’s terrible, I am so worried because I thought London was a safe place. “He could barely speak with a broken jaw, but he tried to assure me that he was alright.” A MARA spokeswoman described him as a “gifted” student from Selangor, Malaysia, who was one of a tiny percentage selected by the Government for a sponsored place in Britain. The footage drew condemnation from Mr Cameron, police and thousands of internet users who viewed it on YouTube.

I went to malaysia last year , and the people are so friendly there.
This is sad. There are 3 thing the prophet recommends we do in an injustice.
1. TAKE ACTION AGAINST IT
2. SPEAK OUT AGAINST IT ( THANKX NANIMA)
3. HATE IT IN YOUR HEART (RESERVED FOR THE WEAKEST OF MUSLIMS)
I SAY WE TAKE ACTION …YOU SLAP US ON THE CHEEK…WELL, NOW WE GONNA PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE . IM READY TO BE MOIBLISED.
FURIOUS SOUTH AFRICAN
The sad thing is as muslims we have forgotten that with us its an eye for an eye..
but now Muslims have become so submissive that we have started making excuses for the infidels and justifying their behaviour..
The muslims are too afraid of being labelled terrorists.. I ask you, how did all this riots start, cos a cop shot a citizen, see how the kuffaar took action, why didnt the muslims take action when this muslim brother was injured..
It’s a sad reflection on the depths to which people have sunk in today’s times – regardless of what religion this boy is. It’s just co-incidental that he’s Muslim. It doesn’t make the act worse just because he’s a Muslim.
Unfortunately, it’s also sad to see the responses that this article elicits from South African Muslims:
“YOU SLAP US ON THE CHEEK…WELL, NOW WE GONNA PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE.”
Does that sound like an example of the kind of thinking Muslims should promote? Or does it sound like something one of the rioters in London would say?
Just something to think about.
as a south african muslim who lived in london for 13 years .. i find this type of behavior unacceptable ,inhumane, disgusting ,racists, and difficult from a society such as the british…lock them up for a lengty period of time, and ensure they are ‘tagged’ every single one , that have been involved in the violence and chaos…the statement of ‘violence ‘ and suggestion of revenge by the south african muslim does not speak for the majority of decent ,peace loving people in our country. may ‘god’ protect us all.
it does make it worse because his muslim. it is like the difference between a brother getting kicked or a stranger. who is more closer and won’t u feel more pain for a brother. won’t u want to do something if a brother gets knocked.. Rasullullah giving an example of Muslim unity is reported to have said in a Hadith:
“The Muslim Ummah is like one body. If the eye is in pain then the whole body is in pain and if the head is in pain then the whole body is in pain”
as peace loving muslims our duty is also to stand up against oppression. how do you suggest we do that peace lovingly?
@Mohamed, I like your comment.
