In less then a week I was in in 4 provinces of South Africa. I decided to do a Steak Sandwich taste test. When asked on facbeook what they prefer in these regions these sandwiches came out tops. I wanted to see what everyone was raving about in their regions.

Harrismith Toasted Steak
On our way to Durban we had a long long long stop at Wrap it up. Tasted the toasted steak special. Nice saucy steak. I do not eat butter, but none the less the sandwich was tasty.
Durban Toasted Steak
I liked this sandwich. It was saucy and tasty. Minus the peppers as they don’t agree with me, it would have been in my top 3. lol.
Cape Town’s Gatsby

Yoh, this was a big big big sandwich.R80 but could feed a hungry army. We had it for lunch and supper. It was tasty. I am one for a crispy roll and found the roll a bit soft. Once I toasted the Gatsby in the evening, I really enjoyed it. or maybe I was famished because there was no halaal meals or water at the #SAblogawards. Gatsby in the top 3. Highly recommend – A toasted Gatsby or a Gatsby with a crispy roll is more my cuppa tea..
Jozi’s Toasted Steak Special
Akhals is Akhals. Soul food. Ideal for rainy weather. Filling and hits the spot everytime. In my top 3 sandwiches. lol

Steak Special from Wrap it up in Harrismith !!
Was the Best – Didn’t take a photo though and not sure if it was because I was very Hungry, but it really was good. (The WIU by the Engen Garage in Harrismith – past Montrose)
Had Steak, Cheese and Chips with lotsa good sauce and no peppers in a lovely hot toasted Sandwich….
mmmm – I’m hungry again now

Dagwood Sandwich from Ermelo nominated Bilals is really the king-pin. – It has steak, a patty, polony, salad, chips, cheese.
I’m a food connoisseur and have been through my fair share of sandwiches. I cook and I’m relatively fussy in my choice in sauce, texture, taste and presentation. So the natural critic comes in to play when it comes to judgement. I’ve tasted the rest but if you really want the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be, you just have to put your mouth around a Dagwood Sandwich from Ermelo nominated Bilals – It has steak, a patty, polony, salad, chips, cheese served with its secret sauce and I assure you its something to die for. This is perfection at its best. Just sad that we cant get this quality in fast food in Durban.
I’ve just recently discovered a place that in my opinion has the best Steak Sandwich – it’s called MaMoo’s Sandwich Shack & it’s in Overport – so central. At the Ridiculous Price they charge – I became lazy to make this at home – you would too if you were paying R20 FOR A TOASTED STEAK so tasty.
Normal Dagwood aswell as the mochacha dagwood & woody style burgers from moe’s in actonville benoni is absolutely divine if you ever in benoni and love fast food moes is a must stop!!!
