Here is a video about my Gautrain experience. I watched the Gautrain project as it grew up from nothing to such a beauty. You can say I knew about it before it was born. When it was still in the womb, in it’s planning stages. I must admit I was a little worried when I saw the quantity sureyors measuring for the tracks and thought there goes my peace and quiet. My blood did boil when I saw the beautiful trees being cut and especially when the zebra and wildebeest that i could see from the distance disappeared.Hopefully the reducing of carbon emissions from cars that were on the road using the Gautrain will offset this. They are testing the Gautrain near the depot and trains going past all the time. It is amazing and beautiful to watch the Gautrain especially when the sunrises and when it sunsets. It is almost silent until it goes over the bridge.
Gautrain #tweetuponrails
I was invited to #tweetuponrails and we were just suppose to see @TheGautrain but we were lucky to experience a train ride. My kids, my 4 year old bichoo, baby of 3 months poiro and the pram accompanied me.
We have arrived to the first world.Fancy. World class train. Similar to the ones in Europe but no minding the gap as there is no gap. The ride was smooth, air conditioned. Blue seats. Blue carpets with small gold gautrains on them. It will give the other blue train a run for it’s money. Enough space for pram. Baby was a little restless and hungry. I was told that stations will be baby friendly with baby changing rooms . (See Special Needs Passenger i.e wheelchairs, blind and hearing impaired passengers) The speed was 160km/h. I even saw my house from the train. Gautrain is looking into options of wifi on the train as well. They will have a very clever smart card that will know when you using facilities properly.

Gautrain world cup ready
Phase one of the Gautrain rapid-rail link, stretching from OR Tambo International Airport to Sandton station, will be ready for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, says Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) CEO Jack van der Merwe.
“The document is on my table, all I need to do is sign it. We are 99,99% there. We should be able to carry passengers, at the latest, on June 8.” source: Engineering news
Gautrain Ticket prices
About R20 between Johannesburg and Pretoria and R100 to the Airport.
A single train trip plus a single bus trip would cost R22.50 from Sandton to Marlboro, R27 from Sandton to Rhodesfield and R24.50 from Marlboro to Rhodesfield, the Gautrain Management Agency and Bombela Concession Company said in a joint statement.
Without the bus trip the ticket would be R6 cheaper. Trips to the airport from any of these stations would also cost R100.
These routes all open on June 8.
Parking at any station would cost R9.50 for the first 24 hours or part thereof as long as the train was also used. Someone only using the parking would pay “substantially” more.
The train and bus service would run from Monday to Sunday between 5.30am and 8.30pm, every 12 minutes during peak times (5.30 to 8.30am and 4 to 7pm) and every 20 minutes off-peak.
Commuters would have access to these services with a “contactless smart card”. It would cost R10 and money could be loaded onto it as required.
“This fare policy is aimed at making the Gautrain attractive and affordable to broad sectors of the population without competing with existing modes of public transport.”
Gautrain commuter fares would be “typically lower” than using a private vehicle for the same journey, but more expensive than using existing minibus taxis, Metrobus or Metrorail.
