Road closures Polokwane
The Polokwane Municipality has put in place a plan for several road closures in the city for the upcoming 2010 Fifa World Cup. The road closures will differ on match days and non match days. Most affected by the arrangement will be households and businesses close to the stadium precinct.
During all match days, all roads will be closed to the south of Marshall Street from Church to Webster Street.
Maroela Street in the east will also be closed off while part of Pafuri Street leading into the Fan Fest area will have restricted access.
The N1 turn-off, also known as the Tzaneen Bypass, and the N1 and Grobler Street intersection will be closed off for all vehicles except match ticket holders whose accreditation permits them to park in the stadium precinct.
To accommodate the Fan Walk, which stretches from the Central Transport Hub to the Stadium and Fan Fest area, Landdros Maré Street will also be closed to traffic south of Bodenstein Street and the intersections of Rabe Street all the way to Suid Street.
On non match days, the Fan Fest will be operational and roads will be closed south of Marshall Street from Church Street. Vehicles travelling down Suid Street will turn into Biccard Street away from the Fan Fest.
Roads will be closed from 10 June to 11 July throughout the tournament and on match day road closures will be from midnight to midnight.
All residents and businesses requiring access through theses closures are required to apply for a Vehicle Access Permit (VAP).
A single permit is issued per residence or business and can be obtained from Arup, at 33 General Joubert Street in the city during office hours.
The permits will be issued from 4 May 2010 till 9 July 2010 and applicants will be required to present their assessment rates invoice or a letter of request from the business.
Members of Virgin Active and Polokwane Golf Club wishing to use the facilities will also have to apply for the permits. Applicants will be required to present proof of membership to receive permits.
All affected guest houses and bed and breakfast businesses in the area are also required to present their guest lists to the commander in charge at their nearest road closure by 08:00 every morning on the days of the closures.
Meanwhile the municipality earlier this week also said the only major 2010 related projects that are yet to be finalised are the Park n Ride facilities.
