SARS Turnover tax
Apply for Turnover Tax between 1 March – 30 April 2009
Turnover Tax is a simplified tax that is being introduced for small businesses. The objective is to reduce the tax compliance and administrative burden by simplifying and reducing the number of returns that have to be filed.SARS Travel eLogbook
4/3/2009 The income tax system allows taxpayers who receive a travel allowance to claim a deduction for the use of their private vehicle for business purposes. In order to claim a deduction, the first step is to record your vehicle’s odometer reading on 1 March each year (the first day of the tax year for individuals) and again on the last day of February the next year (the last day of the tax year for individuals). These opening and closing readings give you your total kilometres travelled for the year. TIP: sms your own car’s kilometre reading as on 28 February 2009 to your own cell phone for safekeeping. Recording your mileage will help you make an accurate claim when submitting your tax return. You can now keep record of your travels by completing this online logbook. You may also download the logbook to your PC or you may print a hard copy and complete it at your own leisure.
4/2/2009 The deadline for eFiling is upon us on 5 February 2009. SARS made it very easy this year with pre-populated forms. The efiling is very easy to use once you download the right version of Adobe acrobat reader. It is easy. First you register. Then you login. then you choose the incentives you have e.g. medical aid or travel allowance. Then automatically like magic a custom form is created for you. Then with IRP5 in one hand, you populate the IT12 form. Remember to have a log book for your travel allowance. The last time I had to submit a tax form I completely forgot my username and password. I didn’t even save madala’s. If you lost or forgot your username and password – click on the eFiling link and follow the reminder.
