LEGALISE OUR RELIGIOUS MARRIAGES What I don't understand is while "other" marriages are allowed in this beautiful country of ours, why is Islamic or religious marriages still not legalised? I asked a lawyer. He said the bride isn't present at the Nikah. My argument is in some legalised marriages a bride will never be present either. In some religious marriages e.g. the hindu marriages the bride is present. Why aren't we marching to constitution hill demanding that our religious marriages be recognised? What are we going to do about this? It is time we stand up for our rights and demand our marriages get recognised. We couldn't find one muslim marriage officer? Where are they hiding? Why are the moulana's who are performing nikah's not qualified as marriage officers as well? They will be providing a great service to the community, especially from an Islamic will perspective. All they have to do is write an exam at home affairs and after the nikah or walimah, register the couple marriages legally as well. (A ten minute exercise and extra cash in the pocket) It is time we solve this once and for all. The Christian marriages are so organised in this regard because all the people who perform their marriage ceremonies, the priests or pastors are marriage officers as well. MARRIAGE TIP Make sure you have your signed ante nuptial contract ready before you get married.
