NANIMA’S PANCHAAT

Backtracking If you noticed something, this is newsletter 53 and I sent 54 last week. Due to internetlessness, I couldn’t send this newsletter out. Enjoy.
Greyville Primary does it again Greyville Primary school has won first prize Gauteng Teachers Awards for primary education. Well done.
Where’s Wally? I have never seen so many grown man squirm in my life, like when we watched Wally’s open heart operation on TV. I hope he is doing well and not overindulging on the free Nandos. As Wally opened his heart to us, I am sure it was a real eye opener to all of us on how we abuse our bodies. The “Meet Wally’s Heart” campaign was initiated by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa to alert people to the dangers of poor lifestyle and dietary choices that lead to heart disease. A lot of people were disgusted that most of the adverts were sponsored by the unhealthiest food around. None the less, it was amazing to see how they rip open you chest to take out such a tiny little vessel that can be so fatal. When I saw them remove that vein or artery or whatever it was, it reminded me of when I wash my already washed chickens and remove all the remaining bloody parts. I am sure every Nanima would be great at open heart surgery. Deveining the hearts and then stiching the pieces back together.Pity I failed needlework and don’t wash my own chickens, otherwise I would have been great at it.

NANIMA’S REMEDY

The Heart and the Brain Hamza Yusuf
According to the hadith, the heart is a source of knowledge. The Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that wrong action is what irritates the heart. Thus, the heart actually knows wrong actions, and this is one of the reasons why people can do terrible things, but, ultimately, they are affected negatively. In Crime and Punishment, the brilliant Russian author Dostoevsky’s indicates that crime itself is the perpetrator’s punishment because human beings have to live with the result of their actions: their souls are affected. When people do something against the heart, they act against the soul, and that actually affects human beings to the degree that they will go into a state of spiritual agitation, and people will use many ways to cover this up. To hide their agitation, people use alcohol, drugs, and sexual experimentation; they also seek power, wealth, and fame, taking themselves into a state of heedlessness, submerging themselves into the ephemeral world which causes them to forget their essential nature and to forget their hearts. Thus, people become cut off from their hearts.

Wrong Actions Sicken the Heart
One of the things about being cut off from the heart is that the more cut off from the heart one becomes, the sicker the heart grows because the heart needs nourishment, and heedlessness starves the spiritual heart. When one goes into a state of unawareness of Allah and the akhira, one becomes unaware of the infinite world in relation to the finite world, unaware that we are in this world for a temporary period. When we look at the infinite world in relation to the finite world, suddenly our concerns become focused on the infinite world and not on the finite world. On the other hand, when people are completely immersed within the finite world, believing that they will be here forever, believing that they will not be taken to account for their actions, this action in and of itself ultimately leads to the spiritual death of the hearts. However, before it dies and becomes putrid and completely foul, the heart will show many symptoms. These are the spiritual diseases of the hearts. MADALA’S SECTION

Lightening Bolt strikes twice in the same place Wow, amazing. Fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt from Jamaica: If you haven’t heard and been under a rock somewhere, he broke the world record in the 100m and 200m in the 2008 Olympic games, something that has never done before in the Olympic games. He did it so effortlessly. Makes you wonder if he would have been even faster in the 100m if he didn’t side step and relax at the end.
Halala Mokoena Halala Well done to Khotso Mokoena for his silver medal for the long jump. I was watching the event live. Nailbiting.

MADALA’S GREEN FINGERS

Heart Disease
Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States.According to Dr. Harry Seftel Indian people are at high risk to develop heart disease. Dr. Oz from Oprah fame would much rather help you prevent heart disease than perform an operation on you. Here are 5 tips that Dr. Oz says will help you decrease your risk of having a heart attack.
1. Go out and play. You are better off being in good shape and fat than thin and in bad shape. There’s no pill or diet that can substitute for the health benefits of exercise. Don’t starve yourself, but eat well and get moving, doing whatever kind of exercise is fun for you. Go for a bike ride with your spouse, or play basketball with your kids. You’ll look and feel better, and your heart will thank you.
2. Watch your waistline. Despite the advice above, where your fat lands is key. Abdominal fat is a risk factor for metabolic syndrome, which dramatically increases the risk of heart disease. So do sit-ups and keep your waist measurement less than 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women.
3. Legal Nocturnal activity -(Heba Qotb can give you a few tips) Great exercise. Dysfunction in this department maybe that their could be dysfunction with your heart.
4. Go nuts. Rich in healthy fats, nuts are great to snack on and very filling, so you don’t feel compelled to eat as much junk.
5. Relieve the pressure. Emotional stress causes physical stress. Avoid traffic jams, for example, which studies show are associated with heart attacks. Relaxation techniques keep the heart healthy. Yoga and meditation are great, but even simple stress-reduction techniques can work. Try counting to 10 and taking yourself outside the situation, as if just observing it. Stress can also raise your blood pressure, and studies show that people with the lowest blood pressure have the fewest heart attacks. What we once thought was normal may be way too high for heart health. While we don’t know yet how low is low enough, if you have heart-disease risk factors and your blood pressure is 130/80 or higher, see your doctor.

Bouncing for a Healthy Heart Exercising on a trampoline has several benefits in terms of the body’s cardiovascular system:
1. Increases strength and fitness of the muscles, especially of the legs, helping to lighten the load on the heart when pumping blood around the body
2. Increases oxygen availability throughout the body
3. Maintains a healthy body weight and lessens the likelihood of obesity
4. Aids lymphatic circulation
5. Reduces level of cholesterol and triglycerides
6. Stimulates the metabolism and digestive processes.
Bones of Steel
Well, perhaps not quite, but it has been shown that this sort of high impact exercise, improves the bone mineral content and therefore the density thus lessening the likelihood of fractures due to osteoporosis. Unlike other forms of high impact exercise such as jogging, the bounciness of the trampoline mat absorbs the down force and won’t cause jarring of the load bearing joints or spine.
Motoring
Trampolining helps to develop motor skill because of the need to maintain both height and balance simultaneously while responding to gravitational forces. Thus, all sides of the body and brain are involved in the exercise. You don’t need a large trampoline to be able to benefit in the above ways. A small, portable one, known as a rebounder, will do just as well.
