LENASIA SKOP, SKIET RADIO DRAMA My little one was speaking to her nanima on Friday. In the background I heard commotion on the radio station my mother was listening to. I asked what's happening, she said she doesn't know. I switched on to the Radio Islam broadcast. I have never heard someone so excited, nervous, out of breath, confused, pumping with adrenalin and full of life ever on an Islamic radio station before. 2 criminals stole from a pharmacy and tried to escape by going down Cuckoo avenue in Lenasia close to the Radio Islam offices. It was the biggest mistake they could make because Azhar Vadi was on their tracks. He managed to get everyone who was listening worked up. "No, they in the school, no they not in the school, no they in this house, not they jumped into that house. No, there are 2, no there are 4." All I could think was thank goodness my Nanima isn't living in Lenasia Ext1, because if she heard all this commotion, her high blood pressure would have shot up sky high. For the elderly things like this could be fatal. I just found the whole broadcast very exciting but a little irresponsible because of the amount of worry and anxiety it caused especially to the parents of the school that was nearby the whole incident. As my mother said she hopes someone gave Azhar some sugar water to calm down.

RAMADAAN MUBARAK The final countdown begins. Ramadaan is round the corner. Are you prepared? Is the freezer bursting with savouries and treats? Do you have a plan to spend more time to get closer to Allah and spend less time slaving over a hot stove? For the cigarette smokers and the coffee drinkers this time is the most trying times because the withdrawals can be really nasty. Cut down from now so it won't be so bad when the time comes. With Ramadaan comes the Ramadaan competitions. Watch this space for the Nanima Ramadaan competition. You must be a subscriber to enter. Don't worry this one will be much easier then the last one. NANIMA'S WISE WORDS

"O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may (learn) self-restraint" Quran Surah 2: Ayah 183

NANIMA'S REMEDY

The spiritual meaning of the Islamic Fasting

1. It teaches man the principle of sincere Love: because when he observes Fasting he does it out of deep love for God. And the man who loves God truly is a man who really knows what love is.
2. It equips man with a creative sense of hope and an optimistic outlook on life; because when he fasts he is hoping to please God and is seeking His Grace.
3. It imbues in man the genuine virtue of effective devotion, honest dedication and closeness to God; because when he fasts he does so for God and for His sake alone.
4. It cultivates in man a vigilant and sound conscience; because the fasting person keeps his fast in secret as well as in public. In fasting, especially, there is no mundane authority to check man's behavior or compel him to observe fasting. He keeps it to please God and satisfy his own conscience by being faithful in secret and in public. There is no better way to cultivate a sound conscience in man.
5. It indoctrinates man in patience and selflessness, as through fasting, he feels the pains of deprivation but he endures them patiently.
6. It is an effective lesson in applied moderation and willpower.
7. Fasting also provides man with a transparent soul, a clear mind and a light body.
8. It shows man a new way of wise savings and sound budgeting.
9. It enables man to master the art of Mature Adaptability. We can easily understand the point once we realize that fasting makes man change the entire course of his daily life.
10. It grounds man in discipline and healthy survival.
11. It originates in man the real spirit of social belonging, unity and brotherhood, of equality before God as well as before the law.
12. It is a Godly prescription for self-reassurance and self-control.

MADALA'S GREEN FINGERS

Arbor Week - FRUIT TREE WAQF CAMPAIGN

As most South African's prepare to celebrate Arbor Week from 1-7 September 2008, so too have SANZAF and AwqafSA pledged to work together in helping to reduce extreme poverty and hunger and ensuring environmental sustainability, two of the eight UN Millennium Development Goals.

Our FRUIT TREE waqf campaign is a unique and exciting opportunity for people to contribute to a healthier more sustainable environment for future generations and what's more, the initiative offers donors an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy by way of Sadaqah Jaariyah.

Through the FRUIT TREE waqf campaign we hope to plant at least 2500 fruit trees in an RDP housing community, outwardly beautifying the community but ultimately leading to the empowerment of the community as they benefit financially from the fruits of the tree!

The FRUIT TREE waqf campaign is endorsed by LENZ going GREEN and supported by our media partners The Rising Sun, Channel Islam International, Radio Islam, Lenzinfo.org.za and iTV all of whom have pledged to work at making this initiative a reality by the end of Arbor Week.

Support the FRUIT TREE waqf We call on all our friends and donors to support this campaign by donating R50 per tree. Furthermore, we hope that you will join us in planting the trees on Wednesday, 3 September at Lehae Township

PS! We're not sure how many volunteers we will attract, BUT we are hoping to plant 2500 trees! At 25 trees per volunteer we will require 100 good, hard-working volunteers. I think its possible for each volunteer to plant 25 odd trees within the allotted time SO please pass the word!!

CONTRIBUTE R50 per tree!
