NANIMA'S PANCHAAT
Addiction My name is Nanima and it has been 3 months 12 days and 5 hours since my last drink. (I always wonder why they call it alcoholics anonymous when in the movies they show you how you have to stand up and say your name in front of everyone before you tell your story.)The drink referred to is that black fizzy sugary substance. Eish, the first month was the worst because I went cold turkey and the withdrawals was painful. In prison, not that I have been, you get rewarded for good behaviour. In the real world of reality TV, it is ironic how the world rewards laziness and bad behaviour. You are untidy, a TV show will do a home makeover for you and you will get a brand new home. You have a skoroskoro, a real wreckless abandon that you have bumped and smashed due to bad driving and you get your ride p imped up. You dress like a slob and you get a whole new wardrobe because you had no dress sense. You an addict, you end up in a 5 star facility where you will get pampered back to reality sometimes even for free. I always wonder if the shows went back to the untidy homes what would the state of it be. Will the makeover be back to square one, track pants and takkies. All these shows superficially tackle the symptoms and put elastoplaster on them and don't tackle the root of the problem. The challenge is maintenance and balance. With addiction that line is very hazy. Addiction is overindulgence. Some things are good for you but overindulgence can cause problems. Food is good for you but do you eat to live or do you live to eat. We have to work but does additional stress' fatigue' conflict pay it's dues due to overworking. The poster children for addiction are drugs' alcohol' smoking. These days there are other subtle addictions that we must beware of: Internet Addiction' SMS addiction' Computer and TV game addiction' too much call more time' too much TV' OverSleeping' OverEating' OverSpending and even OverThinking. Addiction is a state in which the body relies on something for normal functioning and develops physical dependence. When this thing is suddenly removed' it will cause withdrawal' a characteristic set of signs and symptoms. Attached to addiction is compulsive behaviour' which results in a cycle of destructive relationships. It finishes with the loss of free will' identity and an inability to manage one's life and relationships successfully on life's terms. This can be fatal. We over indulge in these things because we want to escape from our reality. We don't want to be where we are and want to be somewhere else. Either high of cocaine' chatting to someone who is not there'mixing it or chatting on the telephone while 10 people are sitting around you (ironic if that same person you were mixing it with or chatting on the telephone was sitting there with you in the same room' I am sure you would not be talking to them and either jabbing on the phone or busy Mixing it with someone else). There is an emptiness and void that we are always trying to fill up by overindulging in our fetishes. NANIMA'S WISE WORDS "You do anything long enough to escape the habit of living
until the escape becomes the habit." Kick-off is at 8.10pm.
Pirates fielded a reserve team in their Challenge clash against English and European champions Manchester United at Durban's Kings Park Stadium on Tuesday night and were beaten 1-0 in a lacklustre match that rarely got out of first gear.
The best match of the tournament so far was the opening game between United and Amakhosi which ended 1-1 at Newlands' Cape Town' last Saturday. Both outfits fielded almost full strength sides and as a result the capacity crowd got their money's worth.
Thursday night's winner will play the English giants in the Challenge final at Loftus on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 3.30pm and the match is completely sold out. Scoreboard

MADALA'S GREEN FINGERSLawn Care Tips for a healthy' pesticide-free lawn/grass1. Read the label. Before you purchase a lawn product' read the whole label. The label contains ingredient lists' safety and handling information' and instructions for use and disposal. If the product says it is a hazard to humans or the environment' it is best to avoid it. 2. Just say no to pesticides. Caring for your lawn without synthetic chemicals is easy and doesn't have to be costly. You'll be pleased with the results' especially if you aren't in a big hurry to achieve that "golf course" look' or if you enjoy the pleasant naturalized color and texture variation that comes with a healthy mixture of plants. 3. Mow high. Set your mower to 2"-3". This step alone is as effective as herbicides in eliminating most unwanted weed plants. Save time' money and landfill space by leaving the clippings on the lawn as fertilizer. 4. Water infrequently' but deeply. You may not need to water at all. If you do' water 1 inch (in a rain gauge)' no more than once per week. Water in the early morning only. This encourages deep grass roots' and discourages fungus and weed germination. Cut back further in August when drinking water may be in short supply and your turf grass can go dormant. 5. Feed your lawn only lightly. Use organic compost or organic fertilizer. Do this only in spring or early fall' otherwise you'll be feeding your annual weeds. A Basic Detox DietA Basic Cleansing Diet should make you feel a lot better and give your body a chance to rest from overindulging.Rule 1: Rest If you are going to clean out your system' take a day or two off and rest because the Cleansing Diet can make you feel tired and could interfere with activities like driving. Spend the day relaxing and listening to soothing music' reading and sleeping to recharge your batteries. Meditation and doing relaxing exercises are also excellent ways of restoring harmony to the body and soul. Remember to switch off all telephones' fax machines and the TV' to block out irritating stimuli which will detract from your relaxation. Try arranging an aromatherapy or reflexology session as a special treat' or indulge in a facial. If you can persuade the therapist to treat you in your own home you will derive the greatest benefit and avoid having to drive. Rule 2: Liquid Drink as much liquid as possible. Clean water' spring water' diluted fruit juices' fresh fruit and vegetable juices whipped up in a food processor' and iced rooibos tea with lemon and honey' are all excellent liquids to detoxify the body. A high liquid intake helps to flush out the liver' the kidneys and the bowel. Rule 3: Dietary fibre If you feel that you need more than liquids to sustain you during the cleansing period' concentrate on eating foods rich in dietary fibre to clean out the bowel. The following foods are the best sources of dietary fibre: fresh' raw' unpeeled fruits and vegetables' dried fruit' wholewheat bread' high-bran cereal' oats' brown rice' wholewheat crackers and snack breads. Soak dried fruit in boiling water overnight and boil in soaking liquid till soft. Add one to two tablespoons of honey. Add fruit and liquid to oatmeal porridge for a delicious' fibre-rich breakfast. Rule 4: Vitamin and mineral supplements When you take time out for a day or two to allow your body to heal itself' remember to continue with your vitamin and mineral supplements. Rule 5: Avoid The Basic Cleansing Diet should not be used for longer than two days. Do not use this diet if you suffer from any illness' or have problems such as heart disease' diabetes' low blood sugar' kidney problems' or any other serious condition. Do not exert yourself while using the diet' so all strenuous activities' exercise and working are taboo. Avoid all stimulants such as alcohol' Ceylon tea' coffee' cola drinks' carbonated cold drinks' chocolate' cacao and cigarettes. Avoid all stressful situations and contact with the busy outside world. Concentrate on regenerating your batteries and purifying your system. You can use this Basic Cleansing Diet whenever you feel that the excesses of eating' drinking and partying are damaging your health' but never exceed the two day limit.
