NANIMA'S PANCHAAT

IT'S MY PARTY Happy birthday Nanima.co.za, we reached a milestone. 1 year already. The first ouma that is an infant. 1000's of requests, new subscribers daily, lots and lots of hits, we still going strong. Oud maar nie koud nie. Thank you to nanima's loyal fans for all their support. Without your help Nanima is niks. Jazakallah
SAVE THE FOOD The Petrol price is going up again. I still wonder why it affects us when our fuel is made in South Africa in a place in Mpumalanga. Mind boggling. When the petrol price increases, food prices skyrocket as well. This year is definetly the year of patience. We are being tested daily. From loadshedding, xenophobia crisis, shortage of rice(imagine biryani without basmati, what will we use pasta rice), hiked up interest rates, now the food price inflation.Makes you want to roll up your sleeves, take out the spade from the garage and start growing your own kos. We all should be grateful for what we have, don't waste and mend our moral ways. I heard that, in the world, a billion people are dying of starvation and a billion people are dying because they are overweight. We are living in a very imbalanced world and need to learn to live in moderation.

NANIMA'S REMEDY

Food saving tips
Eat out less. Make wholesome healthy meals at home. Switch off TV, save electricity, bring back eating meals together as a family.
Shop alone. When you take a child along, you will be tempted to shut him up and buy something unecessary for him.
Make lists. Shopping with a list can save 10 percent on unnecessary items, like junk food.
Watch the scanner. Be vigilant. See if you charged the correct price.
Try the generic. Try the no name brand. All the extra cash you paying is for the fancy dresses these items wear.
Buy in bulk. Don't buy more than you need -- waste is costly too -- but often, bulk items are priced better.
Dish out only how much you can eat. Don't let your eyes be bigger then your stomach.
Go simple. Usually, the more processed the food, the more it costs. It's less healthy too.
Don't buy on impulse. Focus on staples, like milk, eggs, bread, and canned and frozen fruits and veggies. Avoid the tempting goods, like cakes and cookies strategically placed so you can't miss them and those yummy candy bars calling your name in the check-out lines.
Make a family budget with income vs expenses and savings.
Write everything spent down. Go through the pamphlets, surf the internet and call the shops, do your homework before you go shop to shop, wasting petrol. Penny wise and pound foolish.

MADALA'S GREEN FINGERS

DIY plant care: Make a cheap self-watering device by Karen Datko Going away and afraid that your plants will dry up, particularly now that you've become a container gardener? Or maybe you're just too forgetful to keep them watered. Michael Nolan's Frugal Mania presents the cheap way to make your own self-watering device. It doesn't get much cheaper than this. All you need is a plastic water or soft-drink bottle and a piece of old pantyhose. This is amazingly simple. Drill or nail a few holes in the plastic lid. Put a piece of stocking over the top of the bottle before you screw the lid back on. He says, "This will ensure that no dirt or debris clogs up the holes you drilled in Step One." Cut off the bottom of the bottle. Put the bottle upside down in the planter and bury the first inch or so. Then fill it with water. "In my case, I am growing tomato plants in 5-gallon buckets outside this year, and one of the easiest ways I have found to keep them well-watered is to use an old 2-liter plastic bottle," Michael writes.
